Who is a Good Candidate For Abdominal Liposuction Surgery?
Abdominal liposuction surgery is suitable for both men and women looking to eliminate stomach fat and achieve a slimmer, smoother, and more contoured appearance.
Ideal candidates are:
- Non-smokers
- In good health
- Have love handles, rolls, or troublesome stomach fat
What To Expect
Abdominal liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that allows patients to return to their typical activities in only a few days! The process always begins with a thorough consultation. During your initial consultation, Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will examine your abdomen and discuss your cosmetic goals with you. He will also answer any questions you may have regarding the procedure. On the day of your surgery, either general or local anesthesia will be used. The abdomen will be cleaned and marked for surgery. Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will then carefully dislodge and remove the fat using suction. The entire procedure should take about one to two hours to complete.
The Difference Between Visceral and Subcutaneous Fat
Subcutaneous fat refers to fat that forms underneath skin. This fat is typically soft and is hard to lose through a regular dieting and fitness routine. However, visceral fat is a term for the fat that develops around organs. This fat tends to be firm or hard to the touch.
For patients with unwanted abdominal subcutaneous fat, we recommended liposuction surgery. However, visceral fat cannot be addressed with this method. At North Florida Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Center, Dr. David Mateo de Acosta can determine if abdominal liposuction is right for you.
Abdominal Liposuction Recovery
Patients return home from their liposuction surgery the same day. You will need to have a trusted person drive you home following your procedure. You will wear a compression garment to aid in the recovery process. Generally, most patients are able to return to work within two to three days. It may take about two to three months for the stomach and abdomen to fully settle into your final results.
