Arm Lift Surgery
Also known as brachioplasty or arm reduction, an arm lift may be used to rejuvenate the loose and saggy skin that develops in the upper arm with weight loss or aging. This procedure may be combined with liposuction in order to restore a more youthful form to the upper arm and tighten the skin in the arms. Patients usually experience a significant improvement in how clothes fit the arm and improved confidence when raising the arm or wearing short-sleeved clothing.
Who’s A Good Candidate For an Arm Lift?
The ideal candidate for a brachioplasty arm lift with arms reduction is a person who has excess skin and fatty tissue in the arms and would like to get the skin on the arms tightened.
Specifically, good candidates for a brachioplasty are:
- Patients who have lost significant weight resulting in loose skin in the arms
- Patients with loose arm skin that does not change after exercise
- Patients with controlled medical conditions that are safe for anesthesia
- Patients undergoing other body contouring operations such as breast lifts, thigh lifts, and tummy tucks

Day of Your Arm Lift Brachioplasty Procedure
On the day of your arm lift brachioplasty, you will arrive at our surgery center. Dr. Mateo de Acosta will perform the surgical markings that will serve as a guide to remove the excess skin and thin the areas of your arms with excess fat. In the operating room, you will then receive intravenous and tumescent anesthesia.
You will wake up in the recovery room with a compression garment, which Dr. David Mateo de Acosta recommends you leave in place for the first 48 hours. You will be allowed to shower on the second postoperative day and replace the garment. You will have 1 drain in each of your arms that will be removed in approximately one to two weeks.
Recovery After Arm Lift Brachioplasty
Your arm lift brachioplasty with skin reduction will be an outpatient procedure allowing you to return home on the day of surgery. Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will typically see you the day after the procedure to ensure you are comfortable and address any concerns or questions that may have arisen.
You will need to wear a compression garment day and night for the first four weeks following your procedure to minimize swelling effectively. Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will also advise you to sleep with your arms elevated on several pillows for two weeks to further reduce swelling and promote healing. This post-operative care is essential for achieving the best results from your surgery.
Our experienced and knowledgeable staff will provide you with detailed instructions and guidance on your arm lift brachioplasty following your procedure.
