Liposuction
Liposuction is the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure in the U.S. today. Also known as “lipoplasty” or “suction lipectomy,” this technique is used to sculpt the body by removing undesirable fatty deposits from areas including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks, and neck. The procedure is performed through small hidden areas and skin creases. Suction is then applied to the cannula, and the fatty tissue is removed while the surrounding tissues are preserved, making liposuction a fantastic sculpting procedure.

What is SAFE Liposuction?
SAFE liposuction stands for Separation, Aspiration, and Fat Equilibration. During this procedure, using a power device Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will first separate the fat in the areas to be treated. This will be done with our state-of-the-art generation power-assisted liposuction device. Once the area has been separated, the fat will then be aspirated until a pleasant contour is achieved. During the last step of the procedure, Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will treat the surface of the treated areas on the equilibration portion, achieving a smooth contour and preventing the dreaded lumpy bumpy feel.
What is The Difference Between Superwet and Tumescent Liposuction?
Superwet liposuction and tumescent liposuction both are performed through the injection of fluid containing local anesthetic and a vasoconstrictor solution to prevent bleeding and minimize bruising after surgery. Depending on the region of the body and the predicted amount of fat to be extracted, Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will use either technique to ensure your best result and safety during and after the operation.
The Day of Your Liposuction Consultation
The day you meet Dr. David Mateo de Acosta, he will develop a personalized plan of high-definition liposuction to suit your body and guide you on how to achieve the best possible result. He will recommend adjunct procedures that could also be bundled and complement the liposuction and liposculpture procedures. On your final preoperative consultation, Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will take pictures and show you his treatment plan so you fully understand the procedure and expected result. Our staff will fit you on an appropriate postoperative compression garment which will be provided to you at no additional cost.
Day of Your Operation
On the day of your high-definition liposuction procedure, you will arrive at our surgery center and will be greeted by our nurses and surgical technologists. Dr. Mateo de Acosta will review the procedure and perform the skin markings that will serve as a road map to sculpt your body with high-definition liposuction.
In the operating room, you will then receive intravenous anesthesia, as well as tumescent anesthesia. The procedure will be performed paying attention to the smallest details and ensuring a pleasing and smooth contour.
You will wake up in the recovery room with a compression garment, which Dr. David Mateo de Acosta recommends you leave in place for the first 48 hours. You will be allowed to shower on the second postoperative day and replace the garment.
Recovery After Liposuction
High-definition liposuction and liposculpture are outpatient procedures that allow you to return home on the same day as your surgery. After your operation, Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will typically schedule a follow-up appointment within a few days to review the recovery process in detail.
During the first few days, you can expect some drainage along with general discomfort and swelling, which may last for several weeks. To minimize swelling and promote skin contraction, you will need to wear a compression garment day and night for the first four weeks. Dr. Mateo de Acosta also recommends early lymphatic massage to enhance your recovery and achieve optimal results; he will suggest a trusted provider for this service during your postoperative visits.
Our experienced and knowledgeable staff at North Florida Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Center will provide you with comprehensive instructions and guidance to ensure a smooth recovery following your high-definition liposuction procedure.
