Chin/Submental Liposuction
The best way to capture a precious memory or a fancy event is with a high-quality photograph. Unfortunately, these photos may tend to highlight our worst features — from troublesome neck fat to a double chin. Chin/submental liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that allows patients to take stunning photos with newfound confidence. At North Florida Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Center, Dr. David Mateo de Acosta is able to remove excess fat from the neck and chin, leaving patients with a more balanced and proportional face.
Who is A Good Candidate For Chin/Submental Liposuction Surgery?
Chin and submental liposuction helps men and women achieve a slim chin and a refined neckline.
Ideal candidates for chin/submental liposuction:

- Near their ideal weight
- Have good skin elasticity
- Have realistic expectations for the procedure
What To Expect
First, a consultation must be scheduled with Dr. David Mateo de Acosta. Here, you will discuss your medical history, your concerns, and your goals. With this information, Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will be able to tailor your appearance with precision.
On the day of the procedure, local anesthesia will be used to numb the area. Short incisions will then be made under the chin. As the cannula is inserted through the incisions, Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will work carefully to remove fat and to sculpt your neck and chin to complement your facial features. The incisions are closed once the procedure is complete.
Chin/Submental Liposuction Recovery
After submental liposuction surgery, patients must keep their head elevated. A trusted caregiver should be there to drive you home following the procedure. The length of recovery time can depend on how much fat was removed and if the liposuction was performed in conjunction with another cosmetic surgery, such as a neck lift. While neck liposuction is used to eliminate excess facial fat, a neck lift is designed to remove loose or saggy skin.
While bruising and swelling may be common after chin/submental liposuction, side effects tend to be minimal. Discomfort can typically be managed with the use of pain medication. Likewise, a supportive chin strap will also be provided to patients to reduce swelling and to hold the shape of your new neck contour. This chin strap should be worn for one to two weeks, or per Dr. David Mateo de Acosta’s recommendation.
